Feeling "Different"By Clarence William Page Note: This is an article I wrote (or began writing) sometime during the past thirty years. It may or may not have been finished. Additionally, it may or may not have been published. (If it was published it may have had a different title.) I recently found this copy among my writings.
Some of you have read some of my writings and consider me your enemy. Many of you will, after having read this article, change your minds and consider me your friend. As you know, I do not believe people are born lesbian or gay. I believe there are many factors that lead a person to acquiesce to the belief that he or she is lesbian or gay. It is some of those factors that I would like to address in this article. I am fully convinced that many of you are dealing with extremely difficult and "uncontrollable" factors that have contributed to your acquiesce to the lesbian and gay lifestyle and identification. Most of those factors are not of your making and are not your fault. Thus, you are victims of the acts of others. More than likely you are not aware of the acts and processes that have contributed to your victimization. I will postulate causes. It's up to you to accept or reject my premises. It is also up to you to conduct the research to prove or disprove the theories I broach. I believe the Twentieth Century changed human beings. Your possible response may include the observation that human beings are always changing. I accept that. However, I believe the Twentieth Century changed human beings in ways that they had never before been changed. The Twentieth Century saw the advent and introduction into human beings of immunization agents that were designed to build up immunity against certain diseases. The long term effects of those immunization agents were not known (and, in many ways, still are not known). Children became the test specimen into which those immunization agents were introduced. While immunity against certain diseases was achieved, the long-term side effects to human beings are still not known. In addition to regular immunization, many people that served in the military services received even more immunization and chemical agents into their bodies. Over time, those people, as well as the makeup of their reproductive substances, may have possibly changed in ways that had profound effects on some of their offsprings. (We are seeing the emergence of many childhood diseases that were not previously known or did not exist on such significant scale.) Other introduction of harsh and harmful chemicals into our environments and products have exposed us to hazards of unprecedented proportions. Additionally, experiments and tests about which we have no knowledge or information have no doubt affected many Americans. All of these things have consequences. Those consequences sometimes manifest themselves in the forms of impeded maturity, emotional instability, social insecurity, depression, etc. Add to these the "normal" pressures of life and one has a formula for difficulty. When one feels "different" from others it may not be that person's fault at all. The person may very well be the victim of some of the factors mentioned above. "Others" expect you to "fit in" and when you don't they either make an issue of it or ostracize you. Being "different" isn't easy because most human beings want to "fit in". However, when "not fitting in" is not your fault (and you don't know it's not your fault) unhealthy attitudes and feelings can begin to form. Home
